All My Dreams Come True

Jake Julian pushes through his music like a angry bull in a fine china shop—shaking and rattling the music with bold bravado. The broad-shouldered, country boy from North Mississippi breaks "Music Rows" polite conventions" and ignores the usual "cookie cutter"  formula of Nashville. On All My Dreams Come True, his first album for DreamMaker Records,  Jake Julian comes on  "in your face" and heart strong. The CD was produced at Woodland Studios(Nashville) by himself, with Erve Ozoline lending additional production assistance on singles and long-plays. Featuring all his original compositions save one, All My Dreams Come True glows with a heartfelt intensity worthy of its name. "I just gotta be me," chuckles the singer-songwriter, who approaches life with the same hold-nothing-back passion that fills his music. "I have never tried to sound like anyone else. I have always wanted to just be myself, musically. I'm doing the kind of music I love in the only way I've ever known how." We just hope he keeps on being himself.

Thunder In The Distance

The expressions by Jake Julian on Thunder In The Distance are focused and most of the songs are about the end of a relationship and how some people involved simply move on to the next stage, without much looking back. With the raw emotions completely involved the music is strong, thus when Jake has a slightly melancholic, introspective whispery-calm voice, the sadness is a reality. Even when everything is sang with a certain neutralised and relaxed perspective. Very beautiful also are the stormy lyrics as if to take distance from the situation with some stronger aggressive attitude, instead of with a calmed down sadness. With Jake Julian musicality is driven enough by mature experiences and sung with stark emotionality. “Thunder In The Distance” led and carried by accoustic guitar shows an even a more fragile subtle world, with a strong and distinctive voice.

- H Jarvis, Songwriter Review

Jake Julian is Johhny Cash and Harry Chapin in a blender I suppose. Maybe some Bob Dylan, Jim Croce, and John Denver ... If you like acoustic guitar stirring lyrics and heartfelt vocals, you'll like Jake Julian.

Lets Walk Awhile

"As to Jake's music and lyrics, the word that comes to mind is honesty. Not only in it's subject matter, but in the way the lyrics are written. It takes a far better songwriter to bypass clever hooks. Still, make no mistake, these are highly polished and gritty lyrics. The music is wonderfully attractive and inviting. Myself being a guitar player, found Jake's playing... very melodic, in fact a little bit simple so whether he's playing a straight rythem or picking on his acoustic, I dug it. I believe Jake brought all these elements together masterfully with his record Let's Walk Awhile. Jake's really hit his stride with this collection.

Soundclick Interview

Q: Why this name?  A: It was a long time past nickname, so it just seemed natural to use it. Oh and because I liked it better then my birth name

Q: Do you still play live? A: Yes, occasionally, but not nearly like I used to. I liked to play at certain writers nights around Nashville. I think my favorite place to play live was always down on Second Avenue on hot summer nights for the tourists there. They just seemed to appreciate a new song the most of anyone that I've ever played for.

Q: How do you think, does the internet (or mp3 sales) change the music industry?  A: I disagree strongly with the RIAA and their recent strong arm policy of suing MP3 downloaders to "supposedly protect" songwriters incomes. I think they would do better by us songwriters to start addressing better royalty percentages, and more aggressive new artist development within the industry. I think that 1. they were too slow to get on the net, and 2. yes MP3s are here to stay. Going out and sueing 12 year olds and grandmas aint gonna put that cork back in that bottle for sure!

Q: Would you sign a record contract with a major label? A: No, I believe as a business model the major labels have got the foodchain totaly backwards. The writer creates the song, but the writer ultimately ends up literally at the bottem of that food chain earning roughly 3 to 6 cents of each dollar his song makes(and thats if he doesn't co-write). That is why I started my own label. I write them, record them, market and sell them directly to the people who want my music. This is the only way writers will ever completly keep control over their own income short of unionizing. I guess I just felt like breaking their damn chains and not being their damn slave.

Q: What's your music history?  A: Of course I played in the marching band and sang in the Choir back in H.S.  I lived in Nashville from 1994 to 2009. I've been writing songs since 1977. I've written around 437 songs to date, and I've self-recorded and mixed 11 CDs to date.

Q: Who were your influences? A: I was raised listening to Johnny Cash, Eddie Arnold, Ray Price, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and on and on... They influenced my writng along with Kris Kristofferson, Carole King, James Taylor, The Eagles,Charlie Daniels,Eddie Rabbit, Keith Whitley

Q: What would you say is your favorite spot to hang out these days? I love Nashville for its constantly varying music enviroment. My favorite spot on this earth is to be  at home in Mississippi in my babys arms of course! That is where I find all my inspiration. Second favorite spot is in my man cave.

Q: What equipment do you use to write? A: I write all my songs with my old Giannini Classical accoustic 6 string guitar. I do all my recording in my home studio "Dusty Rose" these days.

Q: Anything else...?  I've released my CD "All My Dreams Come True"! I hope you enjoy it, and if you do I hope you'll spread the word. I think if the listening public starts to realize how little the songwriters are getting compensated for their work by the industry and the writers bring quality music directly to the public, they will buy their music. If you agree and like my music, please buy my CDs and any other indie songer songwriters. Thanks.
