Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jake grew up in the small town of
Fairmount Indiana. Layered with lyrical imagery and textures
that whisper their way effortlessly into the heart, Jake's CDs are soul searching
stories of longing and remembrance. Jake has a gift for writing lines that
are absolutely fresh but that run so deep that you will find yourself quoting
them to yourself to explain and validate events in your own
life."
Singer-songwriter Jake Julian offers up a choice menu of music
that resides somewhere between James Taylor, John Prine,
Waylon Jennings and John Denver. An emotionally charged storyteller, he is
at home on the stage, whether performing solo with just his guitar, or with
others "in the round".
Jake is a current member of the Academy of Country Music, The Nashville
Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the Singer-Songwriter Directory
,
International
Songwriters
Association and
Just Plain Folks, a songwriters organization. He's also listed in the SONGWRITERS
DIRECTORY and he is also a member of Taxi.
Jake learned when he was just a small kid that there was something
special about making music. Some of his earliest memories are of his father
singing or whistling to his favorite songs. He sang at home, in the car,
at work while driving his truck. Jake has said the following. "There are
so many things that I love about music, it's hard to know exactly where to
start. I love anything that brings people together, and music does that.
Through the years I have seen so many really amazing things happen. I love
that music can step right over boundaries with a certain gentleness and dignity,
whether it be political, cultural, or any of the other kinds of walls people
put up for whatever reasons. When it comes to music, we are all on an equal
footing. To me that's a nice place to meet. I love how a really great song
picks you up and takes you somewhere else, then sets you gently back down
as the last few note fades away. I love to write my songs by sitting down
with a guitar with nobody else around, and go to that inner place where my
songs come from. Sometimes I find a new song, sometimes I don't, but it's
always time that is enjoyable and well spent. I love all the amazing
people that music has brought across my path, and all of the interesting
places it has taken me to. There are a lot things I don't know, but
this is one of the few things I do know: music brings me back home... to
that place where you find your peace, relief from the rigors of being human,
and the place where my mind and soul blend together and things finally make
sense. I believe it is a blessing to know where home is, and I never get
tired of finding my way there, yet once again.
When not busy writing, recording or performing his own songs, Jake
spends his time tinkering with computers and volunteering as a crisis response
chaplain, managing
